Can I get into Brown?

Brown vs. Stanford?
Hey y'all, got accepted to Stanford over the weekend and have a likely letter from Brown in the bag. I've been struggling deciding where I should go, and I thought I'd ask you all for help. Can those of you who are very familiar with Brown (or Stanford!) offer me advice based on my own preferences/provide me with some guidance as I do research over the next month?
Ideally, I'd be doing something interdisciplinary that bridges biology with political science (or more broadly, the sciences with the social sciences)—are those kinds of programs generally supported by Brown? I want to be surrounded by students who care about making the world a better place—activism is great, political interest is great, and desiring to make change via areas other than activism/policy is great as well! Just number one thing I can't deal with is apathy. Also, I'm a URM so diversity is important to me, and ideally I'd be in a place that makes space for other POCs, but at the same time I don't want to be friends with only other POCs. I'm from the suburbs of Atlanta so I'm used to areas that aren't particularly diverse, but I very much would like to have a very diverse friend group—ethnically, interest-wise, etc.!
Additionally, if you could tell me more about the culture of Brown, that'd be greatly appreciated! I'd like to know more about it before I go off and visit end of next month

Brown Portal
I was a bit confused about Brown's portal (I confused the acccount manager with self service and thought they simply didn't use application tracking), so I didn't end up logging into my portal until days after they e-mailed me informing me I had to log in (received on March 3). Should I be concerned about this?

Brown vs UMich
I posted this in the Michigan forum too, just need help deciding between the 2 schools.
I was accepted to both Brown and UofM as a Ross Pre-Admit, and I am looking to go into finance/wall street jobs after graduation (probably investment banking). There are definitely pros and cons to both schools but I'm really having a tough time deciding between the two, as I love both schools a lot and I'm sure I'd be happy at both.
I am OOS at Michigan and cost is not much of a factor in the decision.
Any advice??

Brown University RUE Program 2014
Hi All,
I applied to the Brown University Rue Program for enrollment this fall. I did not see this discussion on the Brown boards so I created it. Are there any other applicants out there? What are your stories? Have you heard anything? I'm told they want will release decisions May 9th.

Brown or CMU
Accepted in both. Which one has the strong EE or Math and Physics program ?
Thanks.

Brown vs. Princeton vs. Cambridge?
I never thought that I'd get expected to one of these unis let alone three. I have a great but difficult decision to make and I would really appreciate any helpful guidance/advice on any of the 3 unis above.
Just for some context I'm from the UK myself and so would be an international student in the USA.
Thanks

Waitlist
Hey guys, I can't seem to find where I can choose to remain on the waitlist. I've gone to the application status page (as instructed), but I do not see any option to accept/deny being placed on the waitlist. A little worried over here was wondering if anyone knows if I'm looking in the wrong area or something?

Cornell vs. Duke vs. Brown
Hi guys,
I've been fortunate enough to have been accepted to Cornell, Duke, and Brown, among other schools. I'm also fortunate that cost is an absolute non-factor amongst these schools.
Anyway, a quick background on me: I'd love to double major in CS and Applied Math with maybe an Econ minor, but the humanities are still very important to me; I'd want a school where top tech companies regularly recruit for internships; I love watching sports and playing them in informal settings; and I'd like a vibrant social atmosphere, but not one dominated by frats.
I guess I'll assess each school individually now so you can get a sense of my pros and cons for each:
Cornell:
Pros * Great CS program, pretty good at applied math and econ
* As a Tanner Dean's Scholar, I have guaranteed funding for research
Cons * The weather, which is an especially salient factor since I've got asthma and get sick a lot
* A bit too big for my tastes
* Intense, cutthroat atmosphere in Engineering with everyone fighting to be above the curve (according to a grad who worked for my dad)
Duke:
Pros * Probably the best econ program of the 3
* Like I said, I looooovvve watching sports. So Duke basketball, obviously (as a side note, they've locked up 3 of the top 4 HS recruits so they might win the title next year). And Duke football was toying with the top 25 until they crashed and burned in the second half of the season.
* Weather
* Easy to double major
* Especially strong alum network
Cons
* Preponderance of rich, stuck-up fratboys
* Doesn't seem to have amazing departments in CS and applied math
Brown:
Pros * Probably the best all around academic experience. They're great at CS, Applied Math, and alright at Econ. Because of the Open Curriculum, I'll be able to concoct a customized academic path that's got a healthy mix of the humanities and STEM courses. Lower competition and pressure b/c of Pass/Fail. I can drop/swap courses if I hate the profs/material because of their shopping period.
* Providence is the chillest college town of the bunch
* Great social scene for an Ivy. I know I'm likely to have the most fun here.
Cons
* Brown's image, especially in the Finance world. I want to explore the intersection of tech and finance for as long as I can, but eventually I'll need to pick one. My dad works in finance, and he (and most of his co-workers) roll their eyes at mention of Brown. They think they're lightweights. Maybe they're not that well-respected in the tech circles, either?
* The rampant liberalism. As a moderate, I wouldn't want to be verbally attacked at every turn just because I don't like Bernie Sanders, who in my book doesn't understand basic economic principles (alright, I'll stop politicizing things...but seriously, all these presidential candidates suck). I don't like the image of batsh*t crazy chicks with like purple hair and dreamcatcher earrings screaming at me for being a bigot or chauvinist just because I didn't express my thoughts in the most PC manner. I really hope I'm wrong, because if I am then I DEFINITELY go to Brown. If I'm right, I'll probably pick Duke.
* Weather
Any input or additional information would be great, guys. Which best fits my academic needs? My desired social atmosphere?
Thanks in advance. Your thoughts, along with my final visits to these places, will be very influential in my ultimate choice.

financial aid at Brown
My daughter got accepted to Brown along with Columbia. When I saw the financial package, our contribution to attend Brown is 25K/yr more than Columbia. Does anybody know that Brown makes it comparable to Columbia's offer? Or they generally do not change the offer.
Thanks.

Brown superscore
Hey I was just wondering what to do if I apply to brown. They offer superscore and score choice. My scores are :
1st time: 800math, 670CR, 690W: 2160
2nd: 770 Math, 730 CR, 800 W: 2300
3rd: 710Math, 740CR, 730W: 2180
So should I just send my first 2 and have a 2330 superscore, or send all 3 and have a 2340 superscore but they see my terrible final score? Thanks

How Good is Pure Math at Brown?
I still have a little while until I have to apply to colleges but so far Brown seems to offer a lot of what I'm looking for.
As of now, I'm mostly interested in pure math, specifically cryptography (I'm more interested in the theoretical side than the applied, which is based primarily in number theory among other fields of pure math) if that makes any difference, however I've seen reviews of the pure math department that range from horrendous to pretty good.
I know it isn't as strong as the applied math and CS departments, but could some Brown students who have taken pure math courses give me some insight on what their experiences with the pure math department have been? By the time I graduate high school I will have done Calc 3, Linear Algebra, and an intro to number theory if that's relevant.

Brown vs. UPenn vs. Wellesley
I never thought I would be in this situation, but here I am.
Up until Ivy day I thought I was going to Wellesley. I didn't think I had a big shot at any of the Ivies I applied to, but I ended up getting into both UPenn and Brown.
I plan on visiting all three again (Wellesley COC, Brown ADOCH), but I was wondering what others think about this situation. How different would my experience be at Brown or Penn vs. a small top LAC like Wellesley?
Career wise, how would any/all of these schools help to propel me forward?
I am interested in Middle Eastern Studies, Arabic, IR etc. I am also very interested in Politics. My prospective majors at the three colleges are as follows:
UPenn: Modern Middle Eastern Studies or PPE (Politics Philosophy and Economics)
Wellesley: IR w/ Poly Sci or Econ (possibly might try my hand at Comp Sci as well)
Brown: IR (fantastic program with focus on Security & Society or Political Economy & Society), Development Studies

Update on a previous thread as promised:
Hi guys! I made this post earlier about how my school factored middle school grades into my class rank/gpa, putting me below the top 10% in my class:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/1849976-the-effect-of-early-grades-chance-me.html#latest
I promised to give you guys an update and I am, I ended up being accepted to Brown RD and am now choosing between Cornell, Brown, and Columbia. I feel extremely lucky, and really grateful. Only 47 people who reported to be below the top 10% of their class were accepted last year to Brown.
I promised to give an update and I did. I hope you guys can learn from my experiences, and good luck to you all!

6.8% Acceptance Rate
This year, Brown had a 6.8% RD Acceptance Rate (I just did the math for fun).
Using this source (http://www.browndailyherald.com/2016/03/31/brown-admits-2250-to-class-of-2020/), there were 32380 applications. 3030 applied ED, so 32380-3030 = 29350 applied RD. Combined with those who were deferred ED (1905), 29350+1905 = 31255 applications were considered for regular decision.
2117 RD acceptances / 31255 RD candidates = 6.77% acceptance rate.
I just decided to post this since I couldn't find the statistic anywhere else online. Congrats to everyone accepted to Brown!

Does Brown have a larger affirmative action for wealthy legacies then other Ivy League schools?
For the past three years I've seen quite a few Brown legacies accepted to Brown but rejected from all other Ivy league+ schools including some schools (academically stronger) siblings are currently enrolled in. Because Brown was being used as their safety (because of legacy status) these students had not applied ED and talked about Brown being low on their list yet got in anyway. While average scores at Brown align with the other mid-level Ivy's, the spread is different. Between a quarter to a third of the scores are below either 700 for SATs or at 24-29 for ACTs. That is similar to scores of the legacy students I know-low for Ivy schools. Seems like legacy is emphasized far more at Brown now then in previous years-the opposite of other Ivy Schools. Weak legacies certainly don't help the reputation of any school. Is Brown increasing the number of Legacy admits?
