Straight from Brown's website: "For the ACT, we consider the highest scores submitted for each section; however, we do not calculate a super scored ACT Composite score." When they say "each section" does that include the composite as a section? I'm applying with a concentration in Literary Arts with a 36 in the English section so hopefully that will help. My highest sub-sections are 36E 33M 31R 34S 30W. So are those the only numbers that Brown will consider for my tests during admissions?

GPA vs Transcript
Hi,
My high school only reports weighted GPA, and mine is relatively low, relative to my classmates. I generally get good grades (3.9 UW - all A's and A-'s), and I take hard classes, but the reason I have a low weighted GPA is because I have taken a lot of music classes, which drag my weighted GPA down. Does Brown rely on your GPA to compare you, or more on your letter grades on your transcript?

do PLME people read your common app essay?
My common app essay talks about my life with Turner Syndrome and my PLME essay talks about it a bit as well. Is that ok? Or will they read both my common app and my PLME essays?
↧
Attach resume?
Under the activities tab, there is a place to attach your resume, but wouldn't these already be covered under the general common app? What would people put on their resume then?

First-Gen Hook
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if the first-gen hook is a strong one, particularly for Brown?

How advantageous is it to apply to Brown ED as opposed to RD?
So I just toured Brown today for the second time and fell in love with it even more! I just feel like I'm the type of person who would fit perfectly into Providence and would utilize the open curriculum to its fullest extent. I love the vibe and the students there too. The class offerings are amazing to say the least. I've really been considering going ED to Brown; exactly how much will this help my chances? I know that RD acceptance rate is ~7% and ED is 20%, but people say that it's solely because of legacy and athlete students. I feel like they admit more during ED too because the student has to go to Brown if accepted. Is this true??
Also, if I don't get into Brown ED, I'll be applying to Harvard RD with legacy. They still factor legacy in the RD round right? I know it's less than SCEA though.
So would it be worth it to apply ED to Brown?

Should I apply ED / EA if my standardized testing score and senior year quarter grade aren't great
Hi everyone. The majority of the senior class in my school is applying ED, which makes it feel as if applying ED is something everyone should do. I am interested in Brown (I know it's an extremely competitive school to get in, but I honestly really like it), but my senior year grade quarter slacked a lot (currently having a few B's), and my SAT score is also sort of low (over 1400 but below 1450). But I think my EC's are OK, and I am confident that I can write good essays, especially if given more time than until November 1st. I'm gonna work extremely hard to improve my standardized testing score as well as my GPA, so hopefully my semester grade and SAT score would look better for the RD round.
Given the case, should I just wait until December to apply RD, even though Brown is my dream school? I'm just not sure how much an advantage it is to apply ED vs. RD (I've heard that the ED statistics looks really promising because of the ED applicant pool contains many athletes and legacy-bound students, although I'm pretty sure that even given that, the ED acceptance rate is still generally higher for unhooked students.)
If you have any suggestions, please let me know! Thank you guys so much! And to all fellow applicants stressing out about essays and grades---hang in there, we are all in this together!

Brown
Hi!
I'm a senior thinking seriously about applying ED to Brown. I love the ideals, location, and personality and would hands down pick Brown if I had the choice. My only problem is tuition at this point, as I don't expect much from FAFSA.
If anyone here has gone to Brown or knows someone who has, I would love to know the best, worst, and true about Brown University. My main concerns are off campus housing, safety, and student attitude.
If you can, please let me know the tiny details that make Brown awesome, and the glaring truth about the bad things. I want to make an informed decision because I cannot visit the campus myself.
Thanks so much!!!

net price calculator
When I ran NPC, Brown showed me a lot higher than its peer schools. It's 30k-40k higher than all the other schools in my DD's list. I know Brown's endowment is relatively small but estimated net price for Brown looks a little absurd compared to other schools. I read many thread here and found people said they gave generous aids. My only guess is Brown might consider primary residency a lot as an asset to pay for college.
I wish to have some input from who was accepted to Brown regarding financial aid.

Is Brown's FA really as bad as the NPC shows? Do they match Peer Schools?
I have run Brown's NPC calculator as well as that of 20 other schools. Brown would cost us almost twice as much as Cornell Arts and Sciences, UChicago (need only), Vanderbilt, Harvard and Penn. It will cost us more than Barnard, Lehigh, Lafayette, Skidmore and a bunch of other smaller meet need schools. Dartmouth says it will match other need ivies, what about Brown?
Anyone been pleasantly surprised that their NPC was way off to the high side? I am using the same numbers for all school as they are saved in the system.

Tips for PLME?
As a high school sophomore I still have time to make my PLME application as strong as possible. I am 100% certain that I will be a doctor and the PLME program is the perfect fit for me. I have already implemented a new program for families in my local NICU, and have an internship at the American Cancer Society. My GPA is a 4.0 UW and I plan on pursuing the IB diploma program. I also plan on starting research next semester. Is there anything I can do in these next 2 years to greatly increase my chances on being accepted?

Chances for Brown ED!
Hey guys . . . I'm applying to Brown ED this fall and I think my essay and supplements are quite strong. I don't think this matters much, but no one has attended Brown from my school yet since it is quite new. Although students have been accepted, no one has enrolled. I know that the Dean of Admissions is very keen on school diversity, so if I go, I will be the first one from my school to do so. How do you guys think I will do in the ED round?
Here are my stats:

-W GPA: 4.79 (rank is 1/97)

Brown versus Cornell for engineering/STEM
Just posted this at Cornell threads - re-posting here.
Trying to advice a high school senior who is considering applying Early Decision to either Brown University or Cornell University. He intends to major in engineering - possibly engineering/physics or biomedical engineering. Seems really interested in research. Thoughts? My quick internet search suggests that Cornell is a better fit but what do I know?!!

Submitting Research Supplements
Hi guys!
Can someone show me the steps to submitting research supplements to Brown. They said they accept science research supplements but on SlideRoom, there are only options for Music Supplements & Visual Arts Supplements.
Please help! I have two research supplements I really need to submit to Brown, along with other schools. Any help is appreciated, SlideRoom is really hard to navigate. Thanks!

Brown Difficulty and Competitiveness
I was considering applying to Brown ED but my parents are scared that it might be too competitive, they've heard from their friends that the academics are really hard and that people are really competitive but secretly. Is this true? I come from a relatively amicable hs but I think it's a tough curriculum (IB diploma candidate) Anyone with similar backgrounds who can help?

Asian Indian students
Posting this for a friend of a family..
Her son is looking into Brown and is very impressed so far with what he sees. He is a top caliber student and is very social. Not sure what he wants to do, but its either international relations/ economics. She was curious as how big the asian indian student population is on campus and is worried that he will be one a few on campus/ Providence (when going off campus). She really wants a diverse school for him to explore and get that "college experience" .
They live in NJ where there is a large Indo-American population where there are many Indo-American students at Rutgers just as an fyi....
