What kind of bag should I buy for college?
Hi...so I'm going to be a first-year student at Brown in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to decide what kind of bag to buy to carry my stuff to class. Would you guys recommend a backpack, a messenger bag, a tote bag or something else? I know its probably just personal preference but like what do most people use?
I'll be living in Andrews, so kind of far away from main campus. Also, I'm a girl if thats relevant haha.

I couldn't find the info online. Any alums/ current students know the answer?

Admissions Staff?
Hi! I'm applying ED to Brown from North Carolina. I was wondering if contacting my admissions officer would be a smart move to introduce myself, and kind of "preface" my application. I'm just worried that the admissions office might see me as a try-hard or someone trying to kiss up. (Although, I don't see being a try-hard as a bad thing!)

How does Brown separate applications?
I know that Brown first separates apps by region, but do they further separate the applications with 32 and below ACT and apps with 33 and above by putting them into two separate piles? I've heard that some other elite colleges do this, so that's why I'm wondering. Also, would it be of any disadvantage to be put in the lower pile as opposed to the higher one (although I guess having 32 in the lower pile would make you one of the better performing applicants of the pile)? I would think so, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks!

2021 RD - any chance at all?
Hi, so I've recently been looking into Brown since it's an excellent school in the urban setting that I really desire. But I am unsure if it's even worth applying to based on my stats -

1500 new (760 M, 740 CR/W)
ACT - 32 composite (don't remember sub scores)
SAT IIs - 730 Bio M
720 World History
AP Scores - 5s on APUSH and AP World, 4 on AP Stats
GPA - 104.8 weighted, unweighted not entirely sure
Rank - 1st in class
Awards - likely NMSF
ECs -
Volunteering at soup kitchen, tutoring, nursing home, etc 9-12
Bible club 11-12
Mock trial 10
Scholar Institute 10-12
NHS 11-12
Foreign Language NHS 11-12
Environmental Club 10 (President)
Senior year schedule -
AP Calc AB
AP Bio

Is there a realistic possibility that I will be accepted into Brown or is it essentially futile to apply?

Brown Supplement - Where have you lived?
I've been working on supplemental essays for colleges and I just finished Brown's 100 word essay of, "Tell us where you have lived – and for how long – since you were born; whether you’ve always lived in the same place, or perhaps in a variety of places."
Would anyone be willing to look over it and give me suggestions if I PM'd it to you? Thank you!

Brown and Social Activism?
What's Brown's reputation for social activism? A cause I'm really involved in is helping the homeless of America, and I was wondering if I were to write my essay on this, would it fit well with the "Brown image"?

do PLME people read your common app essay?

Questions about Brown/RISD dual enrollment
I have just started looking into the Brown RISD dual enrollment program and it sounds absolutely amazing, however I am not sure if it is entirely right for me. I am looking to do illustration along with art history but I want to get art school instruction so I can best develop as an illustrator while having access to a university as well. I am just not sure if I would be a great candidate for the program as both of my interests are art related and it seems that that programs is looking for those who have interests in both art and a more academic course like a science or English major. Please let me know what you think and any other programs you may know of that suit my interests!

can some Brown University accepted students give us applicants some tips/ tricks for applying?

Just wondering if there are any current students/ alumni that could shed some light on ways to make applicants' application more appealing and specific to Brown. Also, please share some tips/ tricks that would aid in admission! Thanks :)

Brown student host?
I would love to do an overnight at Brown before deciding if I want to apply ED, but there is no such program currently. I know some people just ask random students if they can stay with them for a night, so I wanted to try that.
Is anyone willing to host me? I'm a Caucasian female Senior in NJ interested in psych, neuroscience, and possibly pre-med. I also play tennis, but wouldn't do that at the Varsity level at college.
I really want to get a better feel for Brown because I visited this summer when there were few students and I couldn't sit in on a class or anything. I'm also trying to figure out if the whole Ivy league larger research university is a good fit for me compared to the small LAC schools I am also considering (like Amherst). I'm planning a trip to do an overnight first at Brown on Nov. 10 (Thursday night) and then spending Friday night at Amherst with a student who I found randomly as well.
I appreciate any help you can give me!

Brown Roommate Process/Housing??
I'm applying to Brown ED this year, and I've read a lot of mixed reviews about the roommate pairing process/housing in general. 1) How extensive is the brown housing questionnaire and are people generally happy with their roommates? 2) What is the quality of Brown dorms? (I've read that freshmen dorms are generally good but upper class dorms are worse - how bad are they?) Thanks.

Class of 2020 Moving In
So we are moving our daughter in this September and have no idea how much "cargo" space we will need and how much storage there is in the room. The info about under bed space (for storage containers etc) is pretty vague. Anyone have any answers/suggestions? If I buy plastic storage boxes that are way too tall they won't work, and too shallow are wasting valuable space. Many thanks for any help

Brown PoliSci
Hello,
Can someone who has gone through/is going through/is familiar with Brown's Political Science program let me know a little bit more about it? Specifically there's 3 things I'd like to know:
1) There don't seem to be that many courses offered each semester...did you feel like there was enough?
2) How knowledgable/experienced/approachable are the professors?
3) How many students were in your classes? Intro, mid-level, advanced.
Also, how are the facilities? I just did a tour but unfortunately didn't get a look in on any of the lecture halls/discussion rooms.
Thanks!
